The formula for poker success, part 2 – blog

Hello, and welcome back to our formula for poker success! Well, that’s a bit misleading – let’s just say ‘tips to help you win’, shall we? In case you missed part 1,here it is; and now, let’s get right back to it with:

Categorize your opponents

Poker games can go on for a long time, especially if you’re playing in a tournament. So it can be exhausting to keep track of how each of your opponents tends to play over the course of the day. With that in mind, it often helps if you try to boil down each of their playstyles into a single category. For example, this player might be marked as ‘rock’ in your mind, while that one might be ‘calling station’. Acronyms also help here, such as LAG for loose-aggressive players and TAG for tight-aggressive players.

Only play when you’re well rested

We’ve mentioned this before, but it’s important enough to be worth repeating – make sure you get enough rest before you play. Poker may not be a physical sport, but it will drain you over the course of a long game. So give yourself the best chance of outplaying everybody else by getting your rest.

Make sure you’re sitting comfortably

If you’ve watched poker on YouTube or on TV, you will have noticed that some players just habitually hunch over their stacks. Not only is that defensive body-language, it’s also terrible posture that’s surely going to come back and bite them. Always make sure you’re sitting comfortably, whether you’re playing face-to-face poker oronline poker. If you’re comfortable, you’re in for the long haul.

Always play with a substantial bankroll

You never want money worries to intrude on your headspace when you’re playing poker, so always make sure you have no bankroll issues by going in well-stocked. This removes a potential concern down the line, and frees you up to concentrate on the game.

Take a break

This is so, so important but it’s so often overlooked. Poker can be addictive, it’s true – but if you want to play the best poker, you need to take a break every now and then. Even just getting up and walking around for awhile can refresh your mind and body enough for you to come back in at the top of your game.

With all of that said, we hope you’re fired up and raring to dominate your next game – sohappy playing!
