THE EVOLUTION OF POKER AND IT’S POSSIBLE ORIGINS

The origins of the world’s most popular card game“Poker”is widely disputed, and is commonly thought that poker was invented by he Chinese around 900 AD, as a variant of Chinese dominoes.

The history of cards dates from ancient times and the direct origin of the playing cards is not fully known, but the transformation from a 78 card deck to a 52 card deck occurred in the Middle Ages.

The game of poker that we know today has a rich history that began well before the 19thCentury and has evolved over a period of nearly 1,000 years and across a wide spectrum of civilizations.

Some attribute the origins of the game to Persian game called “As Nas” dating back to the 16th century and another theory points that Poker originated from the French game of ‘Poque’ and another theory relates to the German game “Pochspiel”.

THE MODERN POKER

The version that is closely linked to its contemporary form is Poque, which roots from France during the 17th Century. The game carved its way across the Atlantic with a group of French settlers who eventually founded the city of New Orleans.

Poker travelled from New Orleans by steam boat up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. The game then spread via wagon and train.

The game flourished in the United States during the 19th century when the country began its westward expansion. Hence, the  history of poker is commonly associated with America’s “Wild West”.

The question on the origin of poker will undoubtedly continue but the game will go on and on.

Planet Poker never fulfilled its potential and lived to the expectations of being the first poker site.Paradise Poker started out in the following year, and it was more technically advanced and stable than Planet Poker seeing tremendous growth.

When Chris Money-maker won the World Series ofPoker (WSOP) in 2003, he not only took the prize money of $2.5 million, he made the biggest ever impact on online poker.
